Lakefield National park is situated 4 hours north of Cairns, QLD. Lakefield being the second largest national park in Queensland has a vast amount of saltwater rivers that run into the park, during the dry season these rivers become land locked and form fresh water billabongs. These billabongs have excellent camping grounds where we have the boats pulled right up to your camp. During these 5 day trips we move throughout the park visiting each unique billabong.

Our Cape York camping trips run from May through till October, check our calendar for scheduled up and coming trips. We run our trips from Monday through to Friday each week.

departures

Day 1:

Depart cairns at 0600hrs drive 3 hours north to Lakeland roadhouse where we will stop for breakfast. Arrive at Kalpowar camp by midday. Boats in and fishing till 1800hrs that night.

Day 2:

Early morning fishing and return to camp for breakfast, depending on which water holes we are at, we may return for lunch also.

Day 3:

Early morning fish then return to a packed up camp, put the boat on the trailer and relocate to our next destination about 45min drive through the national park to Harn crossing. Were we will have the boat back in the water and fishing before lunch.

Day 4:

Tour throughout the park seeing all the diverse wildlife and birdlife, mixed with some land based creek walking that are not accessible by boat.

Day 5:

Early morning billabong fish, breakfast then returning to camp at lunch for a feed then leave camp and travel back to Cairns.

Lakefield National Park has amazing camp grounds already set out along each billabong, we use the very best Dometic tents and camp accessories to make your trip very comfortable. All our guest beds are elevated on stretches to avoid sleeping on the ground and 12 volt fans in each tent to keep you cooler on those warm Cape York nights.

We use 4.55m poly crafts as our Barramundi boats as they are an incredibly stable and safe boat. With high sides to keep the North Queensland lizards out. Our polycrafts are equiped with the best in Simrad side scan sounders along with 80lb motor guide electric motors to make lure casting snags even more effective, along with 4 stroke Yamaha 60hp outboards makes them the perfect billabong Barramundi weapon.
